Ilium Meloxicam 20 Anti-inflammatory Injection for Cattle and Pigs
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) derived from oxicam. Meloxicam acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, exerting anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
Indications A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic – antipyretic for use in cattle and pigs by or under the direction of a registered veterinary surgeon.
Use in animals suffering from haemorrhagic gastro-intestinal disorders, impaired hepatic, cardiac or renal function and haemorrhagic disorders, or where there is evidence of individual hypersensitivity to the product, is contraindicated.
Concurrent administration with glucocorticosteroids, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories or with anti-coagulant agents is contraindicated and should be used with caution in conjunction with other highly protein bound drugs.
Safe use in pregnant sows has not been fully evaluated. Available information suggests that it has no harmful effects in the second and third trimester of pregnancy. This product can be used in lactating sows.
This product is indicated for a single administration at the recommended dose rate. Repeat treatments, higher doses, or intramuscular injection may result in residues above the maximum residue limits (MRLs) unless the label withholding period is extended.
Pigs: Repeat doses (more than twice) or higher doses could result in residues above the MRLs unless the label withholding period is extended. The prescribing veterinarian would need to advise on an extended withholding period.
Subcutaneous as well as intravenous administration is well tolerated in cattle; only a slight transient swelling at the injection site following subcutaneous administration has been reported in approximately 10% of animals treated in clinical studies. In the case of overdosage, a symptomatic treatment should be initiated.
