Composition
Meloxicam 20mg/mL

Actions
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) derived from oxicam. Meloxicam acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, exerting anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
Indications A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic – antipyretic for use in cattle and pigs by or under the direction of a registered veterinary surgeon.

Contraindications
Use in animals suffering from haemorrhagic gastro-intestinal disorders, impaired hepatic, cardiac or renal function and haemorrhagic disorders, or where there is evidence of individual hypersensitivity to the product, is contraindicated.
Concurrent administration with glucocorticosteroids, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories or with anti-coagulant agents is contraindicated and should be used with caution in conjunction with other highly protein bound drugs.
Safe use in pregnant sows has not been fully evaluated. Available information suggests that it has no harmful effects in the second and third trimester of pregnancy. This product can be used in lactating sows.

Precautions Cattle:
This product is indicated for a single administration at the recommended dose rate. Repeat treatments, higher doses, or intramuscular injection may result in residues above the maximum residue limits (MRLs) unless the label withholding period is extended.

Pigs: Repeat doses (more than twice) or higher doses could result in residues above the MRLs unless the label withholding period is extended. The prescribing veterinarian would need to advise on an extended withholding period.

Side Effects
Subcutaneous as well as intravenous administration is well tolerated in cattle; only a slight transient swelling at the injection site following subcutaneous administration has been reported in approximately 10% of animals treated in clinical studies. In the case of overdosage, a symptomatic treatment should be initiated.

Dose and Administration
Use the contents of this vial within 90 days from first broaching. Discard the unused portion.
Cattle: Single Use Only by subcutaneous or intravenous injection. 0.5mg Meloxicam/kg bodyweight (2.5mL/100kg bodyweight) in combination with antibiotic therapy as appropriate.

Pigs: For single Intramuscular injection in the anterior half of the neck. (Can be repeated once after 24 hours if necessary). 0.4mg Meloxicam/kg bodyweight (2.0mL/100kg bodyweight) in combination with antibiotic therapy as appropriate.


Withholding Period Meat:
DO NOT USE less than 8 days for cattle and 4 days for pigs before slaughter for human consumption.

Milk: Milk collected from cows within 6 days (12 milkings) of treatment MUST NOT BE USED for human consumption, processing, or fed to bobby calves.
